Silkroad Ensemble’s Phoenix Rising program was created as the group’s return from the COVID-19 pandemic and their first touring program with GRAMMY, MacArthur, and Pulitzer Prize-winning Artistic Director Rhiannon Giddens. This four-song EP features music from that program recorded live at Tanglewood on July 28, 2022. Tracks include a special arrangement of “Biko” (Peter Gabriel’s 1980 anti-apartheid protest song) by Colin Jacobsen, a version of the North Carolina folk song "O Death” (with Rhiannon Giddens on vocals), a new piece by Kaoru Watanabe inspired by a phoenix from various Asian mythologies called “Ho-Oh”, and Sandeep Das’s / Rabindranath Tagore's “Ekla Cholo Re”.
